Profile:
Bill Stevenson is Principal and
Consultant of HK
Stevenson, Inc.
He serves as an
active consultant, teacher, advisor, mentor, and director with several Houston-based organizations
and as a judge with
the Rice Business Plan Competition for many years. Bill is a veteran
in the areas of management,
marketing, finance, and technology. He holds degrees from
both Wharton and UCLA’s Anderson School, in management, marketing and
finance, including an MBA, and serves as a member of the Board of Directors
of the Wharton Club of Houston. With Citibank, Bill managed a $12 billion
portfolio targeting money center banks, and later, middle market
corporations. With Compaq, he led two teams focusing on new marketing
programs and channel development, and co-chaired another to address early
major account strategy. Bill left Compaq to co-chair a start-up
targeting a $500 million electronic communications market niche to better
connect stakeholders by improving
information flow, and then founded his consulting business. Bill is
actively involved in church and community affairs, and as a substitute
teacher with the Spring Branch Independent School District.
A few thoughts, which you may find useful:
"Your character is who you are when no one is looking and what you are willing to stand for when someone is looking." Blackaby & Blackaby, The Man God Uses, Page 6, 1999.

Great marketing management strategy begins with providing solutions to root customer issues, both current and future. Avoid confusing root issues with the symptoms they create.
While having a quality product is important, the customer needs to believe in the value of the solution, and the provider of the solution needs to understand their product from the customer's perspective. As paper currency can be considered a store of value in proportion to its acceptance, a potential product's/solution's value may be considered in proportion to its acceptance.
Have character, don't be one.
I have been Blessed with wonderful parents and a great education. My father once said, when facing tasks that don't seem important but must be done, look for a reason to enjoy completing the task. Two ways are to visualize how your task fits into the "big picture", and to think how good you will feel when the task is complete. This ties to servant leadership. That "big picture" can be seen in the light of whom you are serving - God, family, management/projects/customers, and passions/ministry. I continue to learn!
Take the time to ask yourself why you are where you are. How much is sourced from the investment of God (talents), the investment of others (parents, teachers, friends, peers), your competence? How should you then serve? What is your heart attitude? (A great read: Timothy Keller, Every Good Endeavor 2012)
"Prayer is communication. God is more accessible and prayer is more reliable than any telecommunication method. Prayer has kept God's people connected with Him and one another instantaneously, continuously, globally and productively through the centuries." (Used with permission. BSF International, People of the Promised Land I, Lesson 7, Page 5)
“When you no longer depend on anything in you, then God is ready to give you everything he possesses”. Ray Stedman, RayStedman.org, discussing Genesis 11.
